Method: Sort Savers
Cut our your own Sort Savers using out DIY template and instructions or purchase a pack of pre-cut out and ready for use Sort Savers for your move.
Before your move, place a sort saver into each drawer in your organizer. As you move around the drawer organizer, the parts will move and jostle, but the sort saver will keep them neatly inside the drawer, where they belong.
During one of our test-moves, disaster struck and we found our Lego organizer tipped on its side. All the drawers with sort savers, were still neatly organized and all their parts contained. Not so lucky for the other drawers!
Once you’ve gotten all the drawers safe with their sort saver, wrap the whole organizer in plastic wrap, or use tape to keep the drawers from sliding out.
Method: Painters Tape
Standard Painters tape sticks well to the Polypropyline used for organizer drawers. I used 2” wide painters tape, but had to double it up with a 1/4” overlap to get a nice cap.
Place layers of painters tape, with slight overlaps to keep everything contained across items. Notice how the painters tape is inset, this is to allow the drawer to slide back into the organizer without binding or pulling on the tape. Different organizers will need slightly different depressions.
It can take a few tries to get the hang of it, but it does not need to be perfect to work well. This method works great in a pinch, especially if you already have the tape..
You can use the same painters tape to keep the drawers in place. Other tapes can be used, but are far more likely to leave a difficult to remove residue, so stick with painters tape here.
Watch out!
If you have the 2” wide tape, you can also just lay it across the pieces. and tape it to the front and back. Beware, you’ll be spending some time unsticking bricks or small parts from the tape when you take it off!
Method: Bagging
For each drawer, dump the contents into a bag (zip-top sandwich or snack bags work well). If you can get the bag back into the drawer, it helps keep things together.
Once you’ve dumped the contents of each drawer into their own individual baggie, wrap the organizer in plastic to keep the drawers in place during the move. If you have multiple organizers, you can put them face-to-face.
